Oral Heather

admin | December 31, 2006

Okay, so I lived through the oral surgery, but I look like a chipmunk from the underworld. Still. Three days later. I'm almost through all five seasons of Dick Van Dyke.
It hurts but I have good nursing care - lots of vanilla pudding and mashed potatoes too.
No booze for me tonight.
Happy New [...]

Daily Deviant and Happy Christmas Eve

admin | December 24, 2006

I'm sure there are some people running around like crazy today, trying to get all of their last minute shopping done.
I am house-cleaning, slowly. Today, Jade and I have folded clothing, cleaned dishes and peeled potatoes and chopped celery and onion to the sounds of Moulin Rouge and Labyrinth in the background. Love [...]

Rescue in Waldorf

admin | December 24, 2006

Well, one of the people I've complained about in the past in the dress code mess, she actually helped to save the lives of those two people who went into the lake in the SUV off of St. Charles that I blogged about.
I guess that's another one of those “small town” things.
Heh.
Anyway, good for her!
One [...]

Daily Deviant - Handmade Lamp

admin | December 23, 2006

I just love this artist's work.
There isn't much in his gallery, but this was one of them and I love the heart box he made to give her chocolates in for Valentine's Day. So great!

Teonna Update

admin | December 23, 2006

Teona and the rest of us can breathe a sigh of relief.
Even though we came in way below the mark of what she needed it's okay! A federal grant came through and a scholarship from the Jaycees came through too.
We managed to get Teonna $165, plus the Jaycees scholarship and the federal grant means [...]

At Seventeen I Learned the Truth

admin | December 23, 2006

For Yule Will got SNL the first season - this gift was top on his list.
It was playing last night while a bustle of house activity went on and the song At Seventeen stopped me. I had forgotten all about it. I was only five when it was popular, but I recalled it. [...]

What we really need…

admin | December 23, 2006

We really need an organic market around here!
Also…it'd be great if the local farmers could get in on that action.

Water Rescue In Waldorf

admin | December 22, 2006

As mentioned in my last blog I saw an SUV in the lake on my way home this afternoon.
A reader sent me this article about it:

The land of the free and the home of the strange…

admin | December 22, 2006

It's been a wee bit of a strange couple of days.
I've heard more bad tales of mainstreaming at a school. Doesn't the school system worry about opening themselves up to lawsuits when they put children who obviously need additional care in with “regular” students (I don't know what other term to use)? I'm [...]

Daily Deviant - Mermaid

admin | December 21, 2006

I have been trying to post a work of art by any number of artists from deviantART.com for about a week or more.
Here is today's work by a very talented artist. Click on the photo or the information to see more work by the artist and learn more about them.
I'm very fond of mermaids.

eye roll

admin | December 21, 2006

OMG you are so effing hilarious.
You *love* to dish it out, but you can't take it can you?
The heat from this side isn't even that high. It's just pretty much observational humor with a dash of sarcasam.
What's wrong with that?
Nothing, when YOU are doing it, right? Oh, heck no. You're on the [...]

A Merry and Blessed Yule to You!

admin | December 21, 2006

I made up this graphic for all of my blog readers. Some of you who are on the Hardy-Bartlett holiday card list might recognize it from last year. Will snapped this photo of my tree fairy in among all of the ornaments. I loved the shot and we all sat down and [...]

The School Board of Charles County

admin | December 20, 2006

There was a photo of the newly voted school board members in this morning's Independent.
The photo was pretty funny actually - most everybody looked stunned, even though it was really just the moment the camera had caught them, or the angle. I almost giggled out loud. Sorry guys, it's a bad photo!
Anyway I [...]

Solstice, Yule, Holiday Deviations

admin | December 20, 2006

I have seen a number of Solstice, Yule and other holiday works from deviantART that I really like. I may post several today and then tomorrow, because tomorrow is Yule.
Here is one, which works for me because it reminds me of how chilly it is out today!
I truly hope everybody is doing well - [...]

Negative Terminology

admin | December 20, 2006

Sometimes I think it's so normal to use negative terminology in daily life that we just don't think about it much.
A couple of years ago I had heard the word “rubberneck” on the radio while I was riding past a devastating automobile accident and it incensed me.
I know that not only was I not simply [...]

Small Town Smiles

admin | December 19, 2006

See now, just as I post a blog about how I dislike small town in so many ways, a nice sorta thing happens.
So, I pick R up at the fire station she works at and I take her with me to pick the girls up from school. She's sitting with me and sees who [...]

A Fairytale Town

admin | December 19, 2006

As I was driving around today in the hustle and bustle of the holiday I was thankful for the wonderful weather.
There is a lot of road construction going on, which is a good thing in a lot of ways. Nobody likes to see trees going down, but there is congestion and a need at [...]
